Three Beautiful Things 01/30/07: Arctic air, Nap, Techies in Black

1. Cold, blue, clear day: ice crystals in the air, breath visible, sight lines long and clear.

2. Afternoon nap necessitated by last night's long stay at the theater, rehearsing.

3. Tech crew dressed all in black, moving invisibly, taking props on and off stage, looking professional, mysterious, assured: they know it all falls apart without them.

I love your Three Beautiful Things. My mom gave me a book titled 10,000 Things To Be Happy About when I was a little girl. Similar concept. If everyone just took a minute each day to think of what's beautiful in this world, I think we'd all be a little happier. I could work on this myself. Seems like my 3 things are usually something like: "What story is due today?" "Am I ever going to get my laundry done?" or "I gotta pay that bill"

While doing a Google search on Italians, Kellogg, ID, I discovered your fine blog which I have bookmarked.

I am not from Kellogg but share a love for the community though strong family roots. My father, Wilber G. Braham was born in Kellogg in 1914 and was member of the Kellogg High School class of 1932. He continued on to the University of Idaho, and earned his MD from Rush Medical School at the Universtiy of Chicago in 1939.

I grew up in Sturgis, MI but made several trips to Kellogg in my youth and have wonderful memories of family fishing trips with my Italian side of the family back in the 1950's. I remember when the south fork of the Coeur'd Lane river was called "Lead Creek" and was the color of grey paint. I remember the mountain in back of Sunnyside barren of trees...it was an ecological disaster but, I remember the warmth of a diversified community. My Italian family, the Bottinelli's came from that small village in northern Italy with a host of other families, all interrelated. the disceased of my family are buried in the first flat area to the left in Kellogg cemetery.

I live in Hawaii and am about to retire from the Aloha Council, BSA. I would like to share some thoughts and memories about Kellogg, one of my favorite places in the world. My email address is: brahamm001@Hawaii.rr.com

Aloha...Mike Braham
