Three Beautiful Things 05/02/07: Snails, Art, Authentic

1. Melinda came to my office to talk about her Works Cited page, said so long, and returned about five minutes later with a photograph on her cell phone that she had to show someone: it was three snail surrounding a cigarette butt. It was really funny and I was glad to be the lucky person that she had to show!

2. Poetry, paintings, music, a short, original and acted monologue, a graphic design of King Lear in act III: talented students presenting artistic projects today in Shakespeare class, as an alternative to demonstrating their understanding in written essays. Gorgeous work.

3. I finished Catch-22. Yossarian rises to the occasion as an existential hero and his final deed in the novel is his most authentic, the only thing he can do to be true to himself in a meaningless and absurd world. (What did he do? I'm not spoiling the book's ending!)

Yeah right. You just want someone to tell you the ending so that you don't have to finish the book. Nice try.
