Three Beautiful Things 07/14/07: Taming Kellogg, 40 Bucks, Bullshitting

1. I just got back from walking Snug around the part of Kellogg I first remember as a boy. The house we lived in is still there, but a little bit more decked out than it was when we left it in 1962. Money tames neighborhoods. Everything along the street is more manicured, richer, tamer. I'll write about this in a blog post soon. Too bad? Not really. The West keeps getting tamer and tamer, brought more and more under control. It had to happen to Kellogg one day if this town was ever going to recover from the lost mining days.

2. A great day at the Casino. I didn't win anything, but I made 40 bucks last for about five hours. If I'm not going to win some money, this is how I love things to work out: play a lot of machines, stay pretty even, have some good payouts here and there, and survive. It's so relaxing.

3. Ed and I drove to the Casino together and we fell right into my favorite activity: bullshitting. Scott joined me and Ed at Quizno's in Coeur d'Alene, and the bullshitting got even better. Then Ed and I went back to the Valley and kept right on bullshitting. It's what I enjoy most about being back home: drawing upon years and years of knowing each other just shooting the shit.

I had the same impressions of the neighborhood when I did the photo tour.

"Taming of the Town" - yes, they are finally adding some class to Kellogg. Who'dda thunk it?

I actually had a customer say today, "Oh, the Kellogg area is so beautiful." I don't know why I had to tell her it didn't always look that way. . .Kinda like we were all war heroes for having to live there when it was ugly.

Oh, yea, when guys talk they call it BS, but when women talk they call it gossip. - Same stuff, different names.
