1. Snug's groomer praised Snug for being a very good dog, even when she took grass seeds out of his paws. I am very proud of Snug for behaving so well with his wonderful and lovely groomer. I'll post a picture or two tomorrow.
2. Over at Photo Hunt, tnchick highlights one photograph from the previous week and urges Photo Hunt participants to go see it. She chose my "cloud" picture, here, as the feature photo of the week. I'm honored!
3. I went to the seafood buffet at Three Rivers Casino this evening and as I ate breaded shrimp, razor clams, and scallops with red sauce, I had the delicious feeling of being back at the Friday fish feed at the Sunshine Inn in Kellogg in my youth.

Three Beautiful Things 08/02/08: Free Meal, Tennessee Chick, Affection
1. I had a free steak and eggs and hash browns and sourdough toast at the Trio Restaurant at the Three Rivers Casino and it had been ages since I'd had steak and eggs and I loved it.
2. I enjoyed very much hearing from tnchick, the woman who runs Photo Hunt(er). I was especially gratified that she enjoyed my take on the prompt "Clouds".
3. I had one of those moments I love with the Deke. A joke passed between us. We extended left hands, shook; I said, "You're a good kid, Deke" and she said, "So are you."

Three Beautiful Things 03/29/08: Ready for Spring, Slot Play, School Days
1. I finally finished my course calendars and each syllabus for my spring courses. I'm not teaching any of my courses the way I have in the past and it took a lot of concentration and imagination to figure out how to proceed this spring. I'm relieved. Figuring out these courses has weighed heavily on my mind ever since I got winter term grades submitted on Tuesday.
2. Having finished my calendars, I went on spring break this afternoon and drove with Snug to the Three Rivers casino near Florence and played and played and played and came out twenty bucks ahead. Things were hopping, especially when the karaoke contest started and it felt good to be in a place buzzing with so much fun.
3. I went to Silver King Elementary my first two years of school. Ponderosa Pinings posted a picture of our second grade class on her blog and today Wucky sent me pictures of each of his Silver King classes, minus the third grade. That was the year of a big strike at the Bunker Hill and his dad went to Wyoming to work until the strike ended. These pictures stir a lot of memory and feeling in me.

Three Beautiful Things 02/02/08: Stormy, Whiskey and Cigarettes, Space Truckin'
1. I needed to get out in the driving rain and near the swollen rivers with Snug and drive the road from Eugene to Florence and then have a two hour mind clearing video slot casino session. I did it. It was my second visit to the new sparkling, ringing, buzzing, chiming, flashing Three Rivers Casino in Florence and I enjoyed myself a lot and was very happy to have held myself to a two hour playing limit.

2. Grey Like Sunday made me think that a Jack on the rocks and a Camel straight some day would, indeed, be a fun way to have an hour in the way back machine. It would be fun to find a way to ride that machine together on a Bonners Ferry tavern porch overlooking the Kootenai River.

3. Every Saturday, 11 EST, 9 MST, and 8 here in the west, XM Radio's Deep Tracks Channel 40 plays "Inna Gadda Da Vida" and for the fourth or fifth straight week, I made sure I was comfortably reclined near the radio so I could jump in my psychadelic Iron Butterfly Space Shuttle and rocket into the far reaches of inner space and time.
