Three Beautiful Things 01/01/20: Luxury, Curry Dinner, Creighton Flattens Marquette

1. I enjoyed the luxury of napping, drinking a lot of water, working some puzzles, and chatting online or via email with friends today.

2. Debbie and I spontaneously invited Christy and Everett and Carol and Paul over for dinner, but they were all settled in for the day in their respective homes and declined. No problem. In fact, good for them! So, Debbie wondered if we had the right stuff on hand to make curry and indeed I did. So I whipped up a yellow curry sauce add added onion and shrimp to it and made a batch of jasmine rice flavored with sesame oil and we had ourselves a very satisfying and delicious curry dinner. It had been months since we'd enjoyed homemade curry together and I enjoyed not only the flavors  but the pleasant memories of past curry dinners we've enjoyed, especially when we lived in Maryland.

3. In January, 2019 Marquette defeated Creighton, 106-104 in an overtime thriller. Marquette's prolific scorer, Markus Howard, poured in 53 points. I didn't see this game. I was next door eating angel food cake and drinking Spumante for Christy's birthday. Tonight, I tuned into this season's first Creighton/Marquette tilt, hoping for a spirited contest, hoping to see Markus Howard fill the cup with tons of points.

But, no.

Markus Howard did not fill the cup much at all. No, it was the Creighton trio of Mitchell Ballock, Ty-Shon Alexander, and Marcus Zegarowski who combined for 61 of Creighton's 92 points as Creighton flattened Marquette, 92-75. Creighton harrassed Markus Howard all night long, denying him the ball, double teaming him when he was in possession, and held him to 18 points. That trio of Creighton scorers tickled the twine from everywhere: they hit bombs from long range, drove to the hoop with authority, made mid-range jumpers, and got to the free throw line. Marquette, on this night, looked overwhelmed and out of synch all night long. It was a miserable night for Golden Eagles and, especially, I thought, for their All-American guard Markus Howard.
