1. Things were really hoppin' this morning around our house. Debbie packed yesterday and this morning she loaded up the Camry's trunk and headed off for a visit to Eugene. She hopes to pick up some sub work and looks forward to seeing friends and making music with friends. Two of her bandmates, TR and Laura, live in the Eugene/Springfield area and she especially loves playing and singing and yakkin' with them.
Debbie arrived safely in Eugene in the late afternoon. A downpour greeted her in Troutdale and sounds like it rained from Portland to Eugene, but Debbie prevailed. She is back with Anne and Poppy for what promises to be a fun visit.
2. Diane agreed to take in Gibbs while Debbie is gone. When Gibbs is away, Copper and Luna will play. Well, not really play. These aging cats don't play much. But, for a while, they get to enjoy the ground floor of our house, especially lounging in the living room whether it's Luna on the ottoman looking out our picture window or Copper resting in a pen Debbie set up for Gibbs, but that Copper has taken over as his. With the cats free to roam, I enjoy my time in the living room more than ever. For the next couple of weeks, I will have their company in the house's open spaces -- it's relaxing for me and seems to increase Copper and Luna's contentment.
3. I chopped up some onion, celery, and mushroom and dumped it all into a pot of hot olive oil. Once the vegetables were tender, I poured in a couple cups of water and simmered the vegetables for about five minutes. My last move was to add a couple teaspoons of Miso paste, stir it around, and let it simmer for about ten minutes.
My reward was a bowl of steaming and bracing Miso soup, one of my favorite things to order in Japanese restaurants and a pleasing dinner tonight.
I complimented the soup with toasted slices of Dave's Thin-Sliced Good Seed Killer Bread, a perfect pairing.
