"Surprised by joy -impatient as the wind I turned to share the transport -Oh! with whom But Thee, deep buried in the silent tomb, That spot which no vicissitude can find? Love, faithful love, recalled thee to my mind - But how could I forget thee? Through what power, Even for the least division of an hour, Have I been so beguiled as to be blind To my most grievous loss? -That thought's return Was the worst pang that sorrow ever bore Save one, one only, when I stood forlorn, Knowing my heart's best treasure was no more; That neither present time, nor years unborn, Could to my sight that heavenly face restore." --W.W.
I love that first moment when your smile returns, and you know, despite the pain, that the world will go on. Or, as Truvy in Steel Magnolias puts it: "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion."
On an only vaguely related note: have you read "Surprised By Joy" by C.S. Lewis? It's on my short list, and I'm wondering how it is. I'm not a very strong philosophical thinker--I loved "Mere Christianity" but got a bit bogged down in "Miracles."
(Okay, I think I just won the award for most rambling blog comment ever! It must be time for me to go to bed. :) )

Go Zags...exactly. I am glad to see them work hard and play hard after the "incident". I just hope they don't get in the same bracket as the Cougs.

"Surprised by joy -impatient as the wind
I turned to share the transport -Oh! with whom
But Thee, deep buried in the silent tomb,
That spot which no vicissitude can find?
Love, faithful love, recalled thee to my mind -
But how could I forget thee? Through what power,
Even for the least division of an hour,
Have I been so beguiled as to be blind
To my most grievous loss? -That thought's return
Was the worst pang that sorrow ever bore
Save one, one only, when I stood forlorn,
Knowing my heart's best treasure was no more;
That neither present time, nor years unborn,
Could to my sight that heavenly face restore." --W.W.
