Three Beautiful Things 06-01-2024: Successfully Managing Discomfort, Ah! Manito Tap House!, A Day of Rest and Crosswords

1. My kidney transplant happened three weeks ago today. I didn't really need this reminder today, but the site of my surgery was a bit fussy today as if it was making sure I knew that its healing takes a few (or is it several?) weeks. I'm not experiencing any sustained discomfort. I have no discomfort when I walk, so getting around the house is not a problem. But, that area of the surgery expresses flashes of offense sometimes if I bend at the waist or if I reach to take hold of something in the wrong way. The site seems happiest when I'm walking upright or stretched out flat in the prone position in bed. I napped today, hoping sleep would help the healing continue to progress.

So I cooperated with what these occasional flashes of discomfort told me not to do and rested a lot today, stayed relaxed and still, and figured out comfortable ways to sit up and get out of bed (and back in) when I had to get up to visit the bathroom or fix myself some food. I also found ways to position myself in the living room chair I sit in so that I'm comfortable.

It turned out to be a mostly comfortable day and I'll continue on Sunday to take it easy, make few demands on my midsection, and continue to give the surgery site time to get restored.

2. Not only did Christy and Carol make me very happy by making, as it turned out, two trips to the Sacred Heart Medical Center pharmacy to pick up the prescription I needed today, they also sent me pictures of enjoying the lunch I bought them as my small way of thanking them for helping me out.

They dined at the Manito Tap House and so not only did they enjoy their lunch, the pictures Christy sent opened the way for me to vicariously enjoy this spot in Spokane, one of my favorites.

3. So, to feel some sense of accomplishment while resting all day, what did I do?

NYTimes crossword puzzles!

As you might know, the Friday and Saturday puzzles are the most challenging and the Sunday puzzle (which appear online Saturday afternoon) is the largest of the week.

All three awaited me today and I had a lot of fun working my way through all three of them.

Yes, I needed help, but I always do, but needing help doesn't diminish the fun or the sense of satisfaction I experience when I get to the end and the New York Time tells me, "Admire your puzzle"!
