1. I loved hearing the words from Philippians 2:7 telling us that Christ emptied himself, or, as some versions put it, "made himself nothing". It intersects so well with the ideas of emptiness and nothingness in both Buddhism and Taoism. The wisdom is that far from being a statement of nihilism or despair, this emptying out, this making oneself nothing is necessary in order to be receptive to truth, to the Holy Spirit, to all that the world has to teach one.

3. I went to bed at 9:00; first step toward getting my mind and body adjusted to having to start my days two hours earlier now.
