Three Beautiful Things 06/02/09: Father Daughter Sweetness, Strong Walk, King Lear Chickens Out

1. The painter hired on his daughter today to help out with prep. I enjoyed seeing her work so hard for her dad. Their mutual respect and good rapport with each other was sweet.

2. I took a walk to 7-11 and back, about twelve blocks round trip, and tried to pick up my pace a bit. I'm feeling stronger.

3. During tonight's vigorous thunder and lightning storm, with the accompanying downpour of rain, I felt like being King Lear, opening my bare chest to the elements, and shouting, "Pour on! I will endure!" But I didn't. Instead, I went grocery shopping.

"Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!
You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout
Till you have drenched our steeples, drowned the cocks!
You sulphurous and thought-executing fires,
Vaunt-couriers to oak-cleaving thunderbolts,
Singe my white head! And thou, all-shaking thunder,
Strike flat the thick rotundity o' the world!
Crack nature's moulds, all germens spill at once
That make ingrateful man!"
- William Shakespeare, King Lear, 3.2.1

One of my favorite scenes in the third season of Slings and Arrows when William Hutt is play Lear and does this scene.

I hope this father won't need The Cuss Box while house painting and won't teach his daughter those four letter words later to be shouted out in public!!!

So far, no need for the cuss box, but Donnie Rinaldi hasn't come by to offer any advice yet either!

Grocery shopping 'tis still a noble choice.
